WHY "MONDECA"?

The name Mondeca derives from a town in French Flanders called "Mont des Cats", or "Catsberg". The name was chosen because of the historical association of the town and region with man's constant efforts to organize knowledge for better preservation and transmittal.

Cistercian Abbeys, such as that on the « Mont des Cats », have preserved culture and knowledge throughout the ages by developing techniques for memorizing, compiling, representing and synthesising knowledge. These techniques are still an inspiration source for today's information systems.

The Flanders region, stretching from Bruges to Antwerp, has long traditions of publishing and support for intellectual liberty, both essential elements representative of humankind's enthusiasm for the creation, organization and sharing of knowledge and ideas.
