Reasoning and Inference

Solutions based on ontologies ensure a formal representation of the domain's knowledge. The value of these solutions depends on the consistency of data such as the relationships, in relation to the modelling and the constraints imposed. Based on these formal representations, the reasoning and inference tools can be used to provide added-value services for user information searches, and also for the performance of administrative tasks on the knowledge base.

Added-value services linked to reasoning and inference:

  • response to complex requests on the knowledge base
  • suggestions to users according to their search context: additional products are suggested to a tourist according to the tourist offers s/he has selected (CapeLink e-tourism offer)
  • automatic enrichment of the knowledge base with new information and relationships taken from existing information: e.g.: reasoning rules enabling a merchant ship to be associated with all the statutory instruments relating to its specifications (project carried out for Bureau Veritas)
  • continuous checking of the knowledge base's consistency and flagging of identified anomalies: a company is normally not repurchased by one of its subsidiaries (Press Index project)
